Teaching Yoga to People Living with MS: 25 Hour Advanced Teacher Training (Yoga Alliance Certified)

June 16, 2027 - June 21, 2027
Algarve

Join a small group of like-hearted yoga teachers for an immersive advanced training and retreat on teaching yoga to people living with multiple sclerosis (MS), combining published research, yogic wisdom and lived experience.

Are you a qualified yoga teacher (200 hours minimum) ready to deepen your knowledge, refine your teaching skills and teach people living with MS with confidence, while also restoring your own energy? The training is also open to other health and wellness practitioners who want to understand yoga and MS better.

This intimate 4-day, 5-night residential training takes place in the peaceful hills of the Algarve, Portugal. With a maximum of 6 participants, you’ll receive personal mentoring, shared wisdom and nourishing plant-based meals in a supportive, restorative setting.

Overview

Dates: Wednesday 16 June to Monday 21 June 2027
Format: 25 contact hours, in person only, taught over four full days (Thursday–Sunday), with arrival Wednesday afternoon and departure Monday after breakfast
Group size: maximum 6 participants
Yoga Alliance: listed as a Yoga Alliance continuing education (YACEP) course, 25 contact hours
Certificate: Yoga Alliance registered teachers receive a certificate to log 25 contact hours. Certificates are only issued to participants who attend all 25 hours. Other participants receive a certificate of attendance.
Who it is for: yoga teachers who want to teach people living with MS safely. Teachers who live with MS themselves are very welcome: the timetable includes rest, and you can always choose to observe rather than practise.
What it is not: this is not yoga therapy or a therapeutic qualification. You will learn to teach yoga adapted for people living with MS. Yoga teachers do not diagnose, treat or advise on medication, diet or supplements, and this training shows you when and how to refer students to healthcare professionals.

What you will learn

You’ll explore both Western and Eastern perspectives on MS, and learn practical, adaptive tools for teaching yoga safely to people living with it. You’ll receive a comprehensive printed training manual covering all ten modules, with key concepts and practice guidelines, so you can keep learning after the retreat.
1. About this course: scope of practice and ethics
2. Understanding MS: the Western view
3. Understanding MS: the Eastern view
4. Trauma-informed and adaptive teaching
5. Yoga and MS: what the research says
6. Yogic frameworks for class planning: koshas, prana and Ayurvedic concepts
7. Adapting yoga classes for common MS symptoms: balance, vertigo, fatigue, spasticity, drop foot, mood, bladder and bowel
8. Breath and pelvic floor awareness
9. Accessible meditation and breathwork
10. Class planning, case studies and teaching practice
